Failed Job Interview

Alright, so I had a job interview in Sacramento and was thinking how very inconvenient it would be to have that kind of commute. Low and behold, I get a call for a job interview in Ceres, which is only half an hour from home as opposed to two hours, so I'm all excited!

Of course, Ceres wants the job interview on the same day as the one in Sacramento. All I could think was, 'really?' Out of all the possibilities... It's like someone knew, and just wanted to stress me out. But, the Sac interview is at 10 and the Ceres is at 1 and it will take an hour and a half to get there. I think, well, it's just an interview because I'd already filled out the application and done the assessment tests in the first Sac interview. As long as my interview doesn't talk for more than an hour and a half, I'll be fine.

So I get to Sac where they ask if I want to take another assessment exam, this time for a higher position. Then, when I'm done about half an hour later, they ask me to wait for just a little bit so I can interview with the manager, who is on her way. I do so, and at about 11 we're done, and then they wanted to do another interview with the regional and vice president. And I think, 'aw well. This job would pay more anyway.'

So I interview. This one takes about as long and I don't get out of the office until 12:30. I turn them down when they ask if I want to take a look at the property, letting them know that I had another interview. And bolted with an hour and a half drive to get to Ceres and only half an hour to get there.

I called every two or three minutes, trying to get a hold of the manager to let him know that I was going to be late, and that I was sorry, but kept getting the answering machine. I left two, semi-frantic messages.

I finally get a call back about 5 minutes to 1, after I'd been speeding and stressing, because as much as I knew there was no way to make it, I wanted to get there, and be offered the job because the Ceres job would just be so much more convenient.

Luckily, guy was really nice and offered to reschedule for three. Yay!

So I get there, we interview for about ten minutes, and it's going pretty well. We're talking, and I'm laughing, and answering all the questions as well as I can. When he says, "And you're bilingual in Spanish, that's good."

And of course I answer, "Um, no. I'm not." He looks at me, all surprised.

"You're not? Then ..." and he flips through my resume to the front where it says 'Profile: Bilingual/Spanish' and then mumbles something about wondering why he wrote it down and then continues to me, "Oh, I'm really sorry. I really liked you too. I was thinking that I was going to set up an interview with you and the regional."

Turns out being bilingual was a requirement for the job and I wasn't qualified. He thanked me for coming and apologized for wasting me time, and that was it!

All that stress for nothing. ~Sighs~
